The California Association of School Counselors partnered with the Bay Area Urban Areas Security Initiative to conduct an in-depth study on school safety in 12 Bay Area counties. The goal was to identify key factors related to school safety based on the criteria outlined by the US Secret Service National Threat Assessment Center in its Operational Guide for Preventing Targeted School Violence (2018). Following the completion of this research, we developed materials designed to help school districts address safety concerns with both families and staff. An overview of the available materials is provided below.
This checklist is designed to be a digital tool and learning development resource for staff to enhance their understanding of school safety.
These trifold brochures, available in four languages, are intended for use by administrators, school counselors, social workers, and psychologists to facilitate discussions with parents and caregivers.
